Sustainability & Facility Management Performance
Sustainability in Facility Management or Sustainable Facility Management — I will be sharing my thoughts on these themes and their applications in FM with you over the next few weeks. There is no doubt that the term ‘sustainability’ will be alongside all things ‘FM Technology/IoT’ related as we emerge from the pandemic and charge towards 2030 and beyond.
Let us take a step back though and gather some basic principles on what our FM goals are. One of THE main challenges we have, ever since I started my FM career, over 30 years ago relates to the cost vs value debate. Cost, or cost reduction has s limited shelf life and the continual push towards cost reduction/savings as a single dimension is hurting the industry and is unsustainable. The race to the bottom line is a dangerous one as we know only too well. Our goal in FM is to achieve ‘best value’ for our customers, which is two dimensional and is that fine line between cost and quality.
Demonstrating, or striving towards ‘best value’ should be our ultimate goal. This delivers a sustainable solution and represents FM positively.
At Evbex, we developed a model and protocol for measuring ‘best value’, performance and service quality in FM some years ago. We will shortly be launching QViv2 or QVSi. Which will encompass sustainability, technology, and other solutions to the current and potential pandemic risks and opportunities and will also be proposing a new C3FM Contract. Look out for it!
